【水平方向の前置詞の概念】
水平方向の前置詞はbefore, in front of, after, behindでほぼすべての場面で対応できます。 beforeについては動くものの前の位置を指す場合と順番や順序の前の意味を表す場合があります。afterはそのついになる前置詞で動くものの後ろの位置を指す場合と順番や順序の後ろの意味を表します。
一方、in front ofは具体的な場所の前方を指しその対になる前置詞のbehindは具体的な場所の後方を表します。
《例》水平方向の前置詞beforeの使い方
場所の水平方向：He stood before me.
（彼は私の前に立ちました。）
時間の水平方向：I’ll be back before eight pm.
（私は午後八時前に戻ってきます。）

（私の後ろに誰が付いてきますか？）
時間の水平方向：I reached Tokyo after 3 days
