【関係副詞Whyの概念】
関係副詞Whyは「理由」に関する時に使われその先行詞である名詞を修飾する形容詞節を作ります。なお「理由」を表す単語はthe reasonとなります。また注意しなければいかないこととして先行詞the reasonは前置詞for と関係代名詞Whichを用いる場合もあるので使い方をしっかりと理解しておく必要があります。
《例》関係副詞Why の使い方
This is the reason. ＋ He was late for it.
（これがその理由です。＋ 彼はそのために遅れました。）
This is the reason why he was late for it.
（彼が遅れたのはそれが原因です。）
《例》前置詞for + 関係代名詞Which の使い方
This is the reason for which he was late.
（彼が遅れたのはそれが原因です。）
《例》先行詞the reason・ 関係詞whyの省略
I don’t know the reason why you were angry with me for it.
（私はあなたがそれに対して私をなぜ怒っているのかわからない。）
why を省略：I don’t know the reason you were angry with me for it.
the reason を省略： I don’t know why you were angry with me for it.

That’s why I became a teacher.（そういうわけで私は教師になったのです。）
【関係詞の種類】
関係詞には代名詞、副詞、形容詞としての役割に応じて分類されます。また語尾にeverをつけることにより複合関係代名詞、複合関係副詞、複合関係形容詞となります。
